A Couple’s Counselor’s Plan for Keeping Your Marriage Strong

A Plan for Keeping Your Marriage Strong

Marriage counseling is our specialty. As a licensed professional counselor right here in Belton, TX, I help couples in their journey toward better relationships. However, with everyday distractions of the modern world, a relationship and communication plan is essential for keeping your marriage strong.

Below I’ve outlined a simple daily, weekly, monthly and yearly plan to help you keep your marriage strong. With a little bit of planning, you can find the time and space to connect and navigate any relationship problems or family issues that may arise.

Every two days:

Take a few minutes to talk about how the relationship is going. Ask each other how the relationship has been going, what you’ve been working on, and what you can do to make it better. This check-in helps to ensure that any issues that arise are addressed quickly and that both of you are on the same page. It is important to communicate regularly with your partner, express your feelings, listen to their thoughts and concerns, and work together to maintain a healthy and fulfilling relationship. Regular chick ins also allow you to address any issues or conflicts that arise and find solutions together before they become bigger issues. Trust, respect, and mutual understanding are also key components of a successful relationship.

Every two weeks:

Set aside some time to go on a date together. This could be dinner and a movie, or a fun activity like mini-golf. Mentally set aside work and other obligations and be present. The goal is to have some quality time together, where you can focus on each other and have fun.

Every two months:

Plan a weekend away together. This could be an overnight stay in a nearby city, or a camping trip. Weekends away are a great way to spend quality time together, away from the distractions of everyday life. In addition, leaving everyday routines can act as a reset for the relationship. When couples get stuck in their daily routines, it can become monotonous and dull. By getting away from familiar surroundings and trying new things together, couples have the opportunity to rekindle their romance and build new memories. Additionally, the change in scenery and routine can help them see each other in a new light and appreciate each other’s company more.

Every two years:

Plan a five-day vacation together. This could be a beach getaway, a mountain retreat, or a road trip. This is a great way to reconnect and create some amazing memories together as well as an opportunity to dive deeper into the relationship. Overall, it’s a great way to foster meaningful connections with your spouse.

By following this plan, you can ensure that your marriage stays strong and healthy. You’ll be able to address any issues that arise quickly, and have plenty of time to enjoy each other’s company. So take some time to plan out your marriage maintenance plan today, and you’ll be sure to have a strong and lasting marriage.
