50 Lies

When Joy Feels Dangerous: Healing the Fear That Goodness Won’t Last

July 04, 20251 min read

This is the lie that sneaks in quietly.
It doesn’t scream. It
waits.
Waits for the moment something good happens…
Then whispers: “Don’t trust it.”

The other shoe will drop.
They’ll leave.
It will fall apart.
Happiness isn’t for people like you.

It sounds like protection.
But it’s actually grief—grief that hasn’t had a place to rest.

This lie is often born from deep disappointment.
A hope that didn’t deliver.
A love that walked away.
A moment that seemed golden… until it wasn’t.

Your nervous system learned:
Joy is dangerous. Hope is foolish. Expect the worst.

But here’s the truth:
You are not cursed.
You are not an exception to goodness.

You’ve just been hurt.
And your beautiful heart is trying to keep you safe.

That’s understandable.
But it’s not the end of your story.

Ask yourself:

  • What experiences taught me to flinch at joy?

  • Whose voice made me feel excluded from blessing?

  • What would it mean to let myself soften into hope again?

You don’t have to earn good things.
You don’t have to watch the door in case they vanish.
You’re allowed to receive what’s real—fully.

Goodness isn’t a trick.
It’s your birthright.
