You Are Not a Consolation Prize
This lie doesn’t shout.
It waits in the quiet.
When someone says, “I care about you,”
you think: But would you still choose me, if you really had a choice?
It’s the lie of the one who’s been overlooked.
The backup friend. The second-best. The reliable—but not radiant—option.
It comes from inconsistency.
From being chosen… conditionally.
From being left and thinking, It must be me.
So now, you brace for it.
You wait for them to walk away.
You wonder: What if I’m just being tolerated?
But here’s what’s true:
You are not a burden.
You are not a backup plan.
You are not chosen out of pity.
You are worthy of love that stays.
Not because you perform, but because you are.
The right people don’t stay because they have to.
They stay because they want to.
Ask yourself:
When did I start believing I was easy to leave?
What parts of me have I been hiding out of fear?
What would it feel like to be loved without performing?
You are not a placeholder.
You’re the whole story.
And you’re allowed to be chosen—fully and freely.
