50 Lies

Love Isn’t a Test You Have to Pass

August 08, 20251 min read

This lie doesn’t shout.
It whispers.

“If I just do more…”
“If I’m easier, more helpful, more impressive…”
“Then maybe they’ll stay.”

It’s the silent agreement so many carry:
Love must be earned.

Maybe you grew up in a home where love was conditional.
Where being “good” meant approval—and mistakes meant withdrawal.
Maybe you internalized that love wasn’t safe…
It was something you worked for.

But here’s the truth that can rewrite everything:

Real love doesn’t require a performance.
It meets you where you are.

Love that you have to earn is not love—it’s approval.

And you?
You are not a project to manage.
You are a person to love.

Ask yourself:

  • What kind of love did I grow up around—conditional or secure?

  • What would it feel like to rest instead of perform?

  • What am I afraid would happen if I stopped earning my place?

You don’t have to jump through hoops.
You don’t have to prove anything.

You already are enough to be loved—right now.
